e-Roadster potential Market in France

June 18th 2019, the New Regulation rules project (LOM) on mobility has been approved by the French government, in the first reading in the National Assembly. The budget of the LOM rises to 13.4 billion euros in investments for a few 3 000 amendments.

Among the texts of the headlights: the end of the sales of vehicles powered by fossil fuels (diesel, gasoline, natural gas), the text provides its application for 2040 or the proposal for a legal framework around the electrification of existing thermal vehicles, associated with a text allowing the conversion without permission of the manufacturers. “With this LOM, we target a simple goal: the transport of daily life at the same time easier, cheaper and cleaner.” This text brings a strong response to the fractures and the sense of injustice that many French live their transport.

e-Roadster is targeting segments S1, S3 and segment S4 from 2020.

French Government will provide regulation for this new “Retrofit” activity by end of year 2019. Aire association is representing Retrofit existing companies and work with the Government to reach this objective.

The electric vehicle segment for individuals increased by 24.7% in the French market in 2018 compared with the previous year.


To date, 23 models covers more 90% of the Market. The Renault-Nissan alliance is the lion’s share: three-quarters of electric cars sold in France are Renault Zoe or Nissan Leaf, city vehicles.


Most of it are 2nd cars, for daily commute. In the coming months, the electrical market in France will be enriched by several new models: DS3 Crossback E-Tense, first electric Peugeot 208.


Foreign manufacturers will aim more in the high-end, like Audi e-tron, Mercedes EQC, Porsche Taycan, Volvo XC 40 electric, Polestar 1 and more … but will also convert there “city cars” to Electricity, like the Opel Mokka X,  Fiat 500 and the triptych Volkswagen Up! – Seat Mii – Skoda Citigo.

In all these offers and to come, there is no Iconic, Fun & Affordable Electric Roadsters for daily commute.

This type of car won’t be the priority from standard car manufacturer in the future as too specific and not addressing a huge mass market to absorb their internal costs.
